homeade marshmallows

on 10.12.12

Martha Stewart is my surrogate mother. Everything I know, I learned from her.   I love the idea of
cooking, but not so much the actual act.  Same with baking, I love the smells that waft through your
house, the memories that you make with your children, and of course the deliciousness that follows,
but I don't love the actual doing.  That's where Martha comes in.  I discovered her when I was about
20 years old.  I was instantly smitten, with everything she did.  It was like magic, as if she read
my mind.  The baking and cooking was really just a bonus.  She took something that I found
boring (baking) and turned it into an art project.  Now I not only baked out of necessity, but also
for the art of it.  Marshmallows are a great example of this.  Who wants artificial square marshmallows when you can have homemade snowflake ones!  Below are 3 recipes for homemade
marshmallows via Martha Stewart.  They make great gifts as well as goodies for your hot chocolate bar. I saw the episode where Martha and Kim Reiner made the chocolate covered marshmallows,
which she also used to make her homemade fudge, recipe here.  I have planned to make this for several years, but have yet to do it.   Maybe I will actually accomplish it this year?  Enjoy!

Impossible Project Advent Calendar

on 2.12.12

Have you ever heard of the impossible project?  Do you remember exactly what you were doing when Polaroid announced it wouldn't be making instant film anymore?  Well some really smart people got together and purchased the old polaroid equipment, worked hard to get them working again, and figured out how to produce several of the films, and it has grown from there. They call it the impossible project.  So this December they are counting down the days to Christmas with special offers and or giveaways for each day.   Check it out here!

Lovely December

on 1.12.12

I have lost my way.  I have been a bad blogger, I haven't done much with my camera, and I am still working on my autumn video project.  I have several pictures from this summer that I wanted to post but haven't.  I never finished my 2012 photography project.  I am disgusted, what am I to do.......

My blog was intended to be a space where I could collect the things that inspire me, as well as my photos and projects.  Those things continue to happen, but I just never get around to posting it. So I have decided that I will post something everyday this December so that 2012 isn't a total loss. Maybe the 31 days of blogging will help to create a new habit.

So what better way to start of December than with the holiday issue of Subtle Revelry!  Enjoy. Read here.

What I love about autumn

on 4.11.12

What I love about autumn..........

brown, yellow, orange and crimson (the only
time of the year I like most of these colors)
   the sound of rustling leaves
   crisp air
   scarves, sweaters, long sleeves, boots
   pumpkin
   gloomy days
   blowing leaves
   hot chocolate
the urge to hunker down for a long winters nap
crackling fires (cliche because it's true, it's all about
   the crackle)
   candlelight
   cinnamin, nutmeg, and cloves
   cozy, cuddly atmostphere
   meandering walks
   the pause of it all
Each season sparks a mood in me, Autumn is
definitely the most romantic one.  I know this
sounds more like a singles ad, but it is from my
heart..  I swell with joy,  it produces in my such a
giddy mood, that I feel like I might burst!

Delicious autumn ~

on 24.9.12

I am swooning! I ♥ autumn, I just do. It warms my heart, makes me smile, stirs me to bake, to take long strolls, inspires me to live, to love, and to just settle in and enjoy every moment.  Suddenly hot cocoa becomes this most romantic drink, as does reading, taking a stroll, and anything otherwise ordinary. Is there anything more so?

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot

The Blossoms of DC

Oh cherry blossoms, who doesn't love cherry blossoms!  Two things I love here, the first being flowering trees, the second being an abundance of flowering trees.  Is there anything more beautiful?

Cherry Blossoms Adrift

Pink petals passing
Scents above so high
Painted porcelain perfection
Blossoms caress the sky

Swaying silent shroud
Suitors strolling by
Pink petals passing
Lover's gentle sigh

Pastel hues falling
Slow fluttering grace
Pink petals passing
Lining streams in lace

Pink petals passing
Smoothest transit by
Soft essence floating
In most subtle lullaby

Inducing springtime slumber
Upon a satin shore
Sailing with the current
Pink petals pass before

Time lapse of a girl from birth to age 12

on 23.4.12

Frans Hofmeester took video of his daughter every week for 12 years.  He then edited it into a time lapse video.  What a fabulous project!  It brought tears to my eyes because remembering all those details has always been a big deal to me.  Being able to capture that on film, wow, what a gift!  Love it, it just fascinates me!
